Il regista britannico Derek Jarman alla Mostra del cinema di Venezia del 1991 by Gorup de Besanez
My poem ‘5 AM: Paradise: First Light’ has won first prize in the Manchester Cathedral Poetry Competition 2018. The unwieldy title is a relic of the fact that it comes from a sequence of 24 poems, one for each hour of the day. The first part of the name is the hour it was written, the second is where it was written (paradise being the archaic name for a garden), and the third is the poem's title, in the traditional sense. There's an explanation of the sequence here.
5 AM was inspired by Jarman's diaries for 1989–1990, published under the title ‘Modern Nature’. A large part of the book documents his creation of the remarkable garden at Prospect Cottage, Dungeness. It also deals with the progress of his HIV infection.
