The poem "Changing Rooms" has been published on LossLit. It's my attempt to write something different about loss.
One of the best things about LossLit is that they ask you to nominate a book for inclusion in their cannon of loss. I added a favourite book from my youth, "Le Grand Meaulnes". The title is often translated as "The Lost Domain", which is anything but a literal translation, but feels right even when it is wrong—like "The Remembrance of Things Past". Even though the book is about loss, what has stayed with me is the sense of magic and wonder that the party at the Chateau engenders in Meaulnes at the beginning of the book.
